The 2018 cross country season began with excitement and uncertainty as a young and inexperienced group formed on both the men and women’s teams.
While the men were unable to put together enough for a team, CSCS was represented by four young men who worked hard and consistently set personal records. Guided by senior captain, Johan Barstad, the men were never able to score as a team; however, Barstad earned 1st team all-conference honors and improved nearly a minute over the previous year. His teammates also set personal bests, improving at almost every meet.
On the women’s side, the team added five freshman and five rookies while only one runner returned from the previous year. Senior captain, Rachel Ingram, led the team with outstanding performances week after week—including setting a new school record, winning the Tri-Peaks League meet, placing second at regionals, and finishing fourth at the State Meet. Ingram’s success spurred the women’s team to place second at the Tri-Peaks League meet, third at regionals, and qualify for the State meet.
